Men’s basketball team moves up in rank
The Wichita State men’s basketball team has been getting a lot of looks from around the nation with its current undefeated season following its NCAA Final Four appearance last year.
The Shockers started the season at No. 16 and moved up in the most recent AP poll to the No. 11 spot — wedged just between 7-0 Connecticut and 6-2 Duke.
Louisville, the team that knocked the Shockers out of the NCAA tournament last year one game short of the championship, is four spots ahead at No. 7.
WSU remained undefeated after Sunday night’s away game against St. Louis.
The 70-65 win against St. Louis in Chaifetz Arena was a feat no other team has accomplished this season.
Kerry Miller of Bleacherreport.com thinks few other teams will beat St. Louis at home.
WSU’s Ron Baker scored 22 points, grabbed six rebounds and made four steals in the game.
Baker was crowned the Missouri Valley Conference player of the week last week after his gameplay in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic in Kansas City, Mo., and a win against St. Louis.
Baker averaged 22 points, 5 rebounds and 3.1 steals between the three games and shot 52.8 percent from the field.
Baker was named MVP of the CBE tournament as well, where he scored a career-high 23 points in Tuesday’s game against Brigham Young.
The Shockers’ next game is at home against Oral Roberts at 7 p.m. Saturday in Charles Koch Arena.
