Vice-President of Academic Affairs search nears end
Wichita State’s long search for a new Vice-President of Academic Affairs is coming a close, as the final three candidates will be making appearances through this week. Each candidate will be meeting with different groups on campus and participate in an open forum which will help decide the final candidate.
The three candidates, Dennis Depew, John Koropchak and Anthony Vizzini, were chosen after a much larger search ended on just five candidates. Of those five, only three were picked after the first round of interviews.
The position they are applying for is currently being filled by interim provost Keith Pickus since mid-2011. The responsibilities would be wide ranging but with a particular focus on improving WSU’s educational standing and encouraging research on campus.
Each member was asked to explain why they would be a good fit for WSU, and their reasons were as wide ranging as their experiences.
Depew shared his accomplishments for Purdue University in helping to improve their honors and undergraduate programs, as well as aiding in their financial donors program.
Koropchak focused on his work in building up the undergrad research programs for Southern Illinois University, budgeting and new technology innovation for the college.
Vizzini talked about his appreciation for what he sees as Bardo’s vision for WSU and the potential for growth he sees there.
All candidates expressed their excitement in their letters to work at WSU and help lead.
Candidate open forums for the WSU community will be held from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 19-21, in 209 Hubbard Hall.
