Office of Multicultral Affairs to host on campus unity walk

The Office of Multicultural Affairs will host its fifth annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Walk today to remember and continue the legacy of the late civil rights activist.

“The whole purpose of the event is to continue on his legacy and focus on serving,” said Natalie Toney, event coordinator. “Instead of a day off, we’re having a day on.”

The walk begins at 5 p.m. outside the Heskett Center. The candle light procession will follow a path and end at the Plaza of Heroines at 6 p.m. Following the Unity Walk, the Office of Multicultural Affairs will host a brief program with poetry, music, entertainment and various excerpts from King’s speech.

“Dr. King was all about serving others so we want individuals to keep that in mind while they’re walking,” Toney said. “Especially after the inauguration to see how far we’ve come as a nation.”
