Tuliamuk-Bolton sets record in Seattle

Wichita State track and field star Aliphine Tuliamuk-Bolton broke her own WSU and Missouri Valley Conference record on Saturday at the Washington Invitational in Seattle.

She ran the 3,000-meter race in a time of 9:07.21, finishing sixth in her respective race, which featured many of the nation’s top runners. 

Tuliamuk-Bolton is currently ranked fifth in the nation in the 3,000-meter run for the 2013 indoor track and field season.

The entire WSU track and field team will return home on Friday and Saturday for the Varsity Apartments Invitational, which will take place in the Heskett Center on the WSU campus.

 


Women’s tennis defeats Stephen F. Austin in Texas

The Wichita State women’s tennis team defeated No. 69 Stephen F. Austin 4-2 on Sunday in Austin, Texas. 

Junior Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul led the way by defeating Kateryna Bugayenko 6-2, 6-4. Lucia Kovalova, Rebecca Pedrazzi and Monste Blasco Fernandez also recorded wins for the Shockers in single play. 

WSU, ranked No. 61 in the country, was coming off a 5-0 loss to No. 11 Texas on Saturday. 

WSU returns to the court on Thursday with a trip to Tulsa. 

 


Miller, Lungren named to Shocker Hall of Fame 2013 class 

Former Shocker athletes Paul Miller and Sara Lungren were honored at halftime of Saturday’s men’s basketball game for being selected to the 2013 Pizza Hut Shocker Sports Hall of Fame. 

Miller played basketball from 2001-06 and was an honorable mention AP All-American that helped the Shockers reach the Sweet 16 during his senior season. He was also named the MVC player of the year.

Lungren played volleyball for the Shockers from 2004-07. She was named an honorable mention All-American following the 2007 season and was a two-time MVC player of the year.
