Shockers attempt to qualify for Olympics
Wichita State had three different former athletes compete at the 2012 U.S. Team Trials in Eugene, Ore., this past weekend. Chandra Andrews, Kellyn Johnson and Trent Mazanec all competed at the trials.
Andrews finished 15th in the women’s hammer throw with a distance of 63.02 meters. Andrews finished 24th in the 2008 Trials.
Johnson finished tenth in the women’s 10,000 meters with a time of 32:30.40. Mazanec finished 13th in the men’s javelin with a mark of 71.61 meters.
Johnson also qualified for the finals in the 5,000-meter run, which will be held on Thursday night.
Current Shocker hurdlers Todd McKown and Lawson Montgomery will compete in the 110-meter hurdles beginning Friday, June 29.
