Peyton Allen announces departure
Redshirt sophomore guard Peyton Allen announced his departure from the Wichita State’s men’s basketball program. Head coach Gregg Marshall made the announcement Wednesday morning.
“We are sad to see him go,” Marshall said in a release. “After talking things over with Peyton and his parents, we agreed that the best course of action was for Peyton to put basketball and school on hold while he sorts some things out.”
Marshall stated Allen’s departure was based solely on personal reasons and was not related to any off the court misconduct or violation of team regulations.
“I do want to emphasize that this was not a basketball-related decision, nor did it pertain to any off-the-court conduct or violation of team rules,” Marshall said.
Allen, a transfer from Texas A&M, sat out the 2015-16 season fulfilling NCAA transfer requirements. Allen, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Springfield, Illinois, played 32 games for Texas A&M before transferring to WSU.
After serving as a scout team member on the practice squad last season, Allen played in all four of the team’s exhibition games in Canada where he averaged 2.2 points per game.
