Lady Shockers tame the Bearcats in final exhibition game

The Lady Shockers beat the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats 89-51 Sunday afternoon.

They were looking to go 2-0 in their final exhibition game after beating Central Methodist 63-42 last Sunday.

The Bearcats took an early lead of 7-4 with a jump shot from the corner.

Sophomore Michaela Dapprich started the game by making one shot in her first eight attempts from the floor. Dapprich caught fire midway through the first half after being taking out of the game. She led the Lady Shockers on a 25 to 8 run to finish the half.

Dapprich finished the game with 22 points and 10 rebounds.

“When coach sat me down, that was my wake up call,” Dapprich said. “That’s what I needed.”

The Shockers turned up the defense in the second half. Michaela Dapprich scored the first points of the half with a three pointer.

Senior Michelle Price added a jump shot to make the score 46-25.

Coach Jodi Adams praised Price for her leadership and effort.

“Michelle’s career will go down as a lead[ing one],” Adams said. “She just does the little things for us.”

Price scores 17 points in the game.

“I believe that our team chemistry is coming together,” Price said. “I just feel like my role is to be a scorer, and I am feeling more comfortable with my role on the team.”

The Lady Shockers scored a three point shot with .04 seconds left in the game to win 89-51.

“I like what I saw today— our intensity,” Adams said. “I wanted our team to come out and play hard and they did that.”

The Shockers shot 50 percent from the field and went 34-68 from the field.

“It was good to see some of those shots go down especially for our shooters on the team”

The Lady Shockers play their first game of the season this Friday against Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne University in the Women’s National Invitational Tournament with a 12:05 pm tipoff.
