Shocker softball to host alumni game Saturday

Wichita State will bring back memories Saturday afternoon when the softball team will host its annual alumni game.

The game will start at 2 p.m. at Wilkins Stadium on the WSU campus.

It will feature a friendly exhibition game between the current WSU softball players and the WSU alumnae who played on past softball teams.

It will mark the second time that the Shocker alumnae and the current Shocker softball team will play each other in an exhibition game.

“I think we look forward to having the Alumni Game,” said WSU softball coach Kristi Bredbenner, who is entering her second season leading the Shockers. “One, to get our alumni a little bit more involved with our softball team, and also to challenge our girls and bring back the memories.”

The festivities surrounding the game are meant to commemorate the former players for their part in building the Shocker softball program into what it is today.

Of the alumnae participating are Holly Eckert and Brittany Osborne, who will be making their return to the softball field one year removed from being on the team.

“They’re pumped as any alum in their first year out. They always miss it,” Bredbenner said. “It is that time of the year where they are used to coming out and playing softball. It kind of satisfies that itch for them.”

There is no charge for attending the game.
