A former Wichita State assistant women’s tennis coach was sentenced to 36-months probation with an underlying or suspended 68-month prison sentence Thursday evening.
Nearly two years ago, Max Wheeler was arrested and booked for multiple charges of sex crimes against a child between the ages 14 and 16.
Following the arrest, Wichita State Athletics pulled both Wheeler’s bio and stories that mentioned him from the website, and said that Wheeler was working in a temporary role and was not associated with the university at the time of his arrest.
He pleaded guilty and was convicted on three child sex felonies: two counts of indecent solicitation of a child and one count of indecent liberties with a child in April.
Wheeler must now register as a sex offender.
