STILLWATER, OK— After losing to Oklahoma State by 17 points at Intrust Bank Arena last season, The No. 6 Shockers went into Stillwater with a mission — revenge.

The Shockers succeeded.

“We still had last year on our mind,” sophomore guard Landry Shamet said. “…[We wanted] a little redemption. That wasn’t our type of basketball we played that night.”

Wichita State defeated Oklahoma State 78-66 Saturday afternoon to move to 8-1 on the season.

The beginning of the first half was unusually low scoring for both teams. The Shockers and Cowboys, who have 19.5 and 18.1 scoring margins respectively, were locked down early.

“We do have really good resolve,” Shamet said. “I’ve always thought that about this team. When we hit adversity, we don’t crumble and lie down.”

WSU committed 12 turnovers in the first half alone, making it difficult to gain any offensive traction.

A three-pointer from senior guard Conner Frankamp broke The Shockers’ dry spell and kickstarted WSU’s offense for the remainder of the half.

Tied at 23 with seconds to go before the half, Shamet sunk a three to get put the Shockers ahead 26-23 at the half.

Both teams’ offenses went into overdrive in the second half, answering each other bucket for bucket.

“These guys continued to answer — every time they made their move, we had a counter,” Head Coach Gregg Marshall said. “And that’s what it took.”

Shamet was the driving force behind Wichita State’s offense, finishing with a career high 30 points — 23 of which came in the second half.

“[Shamet] was tremendous going to the basket, finding open shooters, and knocking down the three ball,” Marshall said.

The Shockers shot 44 percent overall, and finished with 36 rebounds — 10 more than OSU.

“Based on how the game went last year, I’m very pleased with the rebounding margin in our favor,” Marshall said.

It was the Shockers’ first win in Stillwater since 1957.

WSU will host Oklahoma at Intrust Bank Arena at 3 p.m. Saturday.
