Freshman Rebekah Topham and sophomore Kyle Larkin finished at the top of the board for university athletes at the Woody Greno Invitational in Lincoln, Nebraska this weekend.

Topham has won two consecutive tournaments in her first two collegiate events, winning the J.K Gold Classic two weeks ago.

Topham continues to show steady improvement, and head coach Kirk Hunter said he thinks she is on the right track.

“Rebekah is realizing what she is able to do,” Hunter said.

Senior Kayla Deighan also finished inside the top ten in the university race when she took seventh with a time of 22:47:9.

Larkin won the men’s individual race with a time of 25:29:9, and Freshman Reno Law placed 11th with a time of 25:52:6. The Woody Greno Invitational was Law’s first 8-kilometer race.

Nebraska won the men’s competition, and Creighton won the women’s competition. Wichita State did not send a full team — preparing their veteran runners for the upcoming races.

The Shockers ran incomplete rosters including six women and four men. While the Shockers plan to run a full squad for the upcoming races, the Woody Greno Invitational gave experience to the newcomers on the team.  

The Shockers will compete next in the Chile Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas on Oct. 3.
