WSU students entertained with latest Apple product

Some students at Wichita State couldn’t wait to get their hands on the newest iPhone release from Apple.

On Sept. 19, Apple released its highly coveted iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. To some students at WSU, the iPhone 6 has been the highlight of their fall.

“It’s definitely the most anticipated release of any product I’ve been waiting for,” senior Sam Foster said. “I actually stood outside and waited. It was well worth it.”

Foster said while he was in line, he noticed quite a few classmates. He also said with the new update, he likes to send voice messages instead of traditional text messaging.

“I found it to be a lot more interesting to have someone hear my voice rather than sending a boring text,” Foster said. “A lot of times things can get misconstrued when you’re texting.”

Prior to the iPhone’s release, Apple sent out the long-awaited iOS 8 update.

Apple has added a new self-timer feature that enables the user to set a time for when they want their selfies to be taken. To be exact, iOS 8 users now have the option to run a timer for the camera to take pictures three seconds or 10 seconds after setup.

iPhone users can now see the countdown on the device’s screen once they tap the shutter button. To alert the user of the time remaining, the phone’s flash blinks for each second lapsed, and once the timer is ready to click, it takes multiple photos rapidly. That way, users have plenty of photos to choose from, especially if the shot is of a group.

Another new addition is the upgrades to Siri.

It can now identify music and also sing it to the users. You can simply ask Siri “Who is singing this song?” and within seconds, it will have an answer for you. If users want to be entertained, they can simply ask Siri to sing them a song, and seconds later, it’ll have a song prepared for them.

The latest iPhone and iPhone 6 hosts a multitude of new updates, and so far, it seems that students have been enjoying them. But the biggest addition to the Apple family has been the iPhone 6 Plus.

“I couldn’t believe how big it was when I first saw it. It’s like a mini iPad mini,” junior Tyler Core said. “I had to get it when I saw it. It’s a lot harder to get away with texting in class now, because (of) how big it is, but it’s worth the extra $100.”
