Men’s Tennis falls to Oklahoma

Junior Nicolas Acevedo serves the ball on Jan. 23 at the Genesis Health Clubs. Acevedo finished 2-1 in the singles competition against Athell Bennett.

Kristof Minarik picked up a hard-fought win at No. 3 singles but No. 22 Oklahoma came away with a 6-1 win in Norman on Friday. WSU also falls to 0-2 in ranked matches this season.

 The Sooners started strong with wins at courts one and three to snag the doubles point. The Shocker duo of Nicolas Acevedo and Luka Mrsic lost their first doubles match of the season falling 6-4. Minarik and Richards were up 6-5 at No. 2 doubles when play was stopped, following the Sooners’ clinching doubles victory.

OU went on to win five-straight singles matches in straight sets. At No. 3 singles, Minarik battled to a 7-6(1), 4-6, 1-0 (10-5) victory to finish the match on a positive for WSU. The rest of the Shockers lost in straight sets to conclude the match. 

 Men’s tennis is back home next Friday at 1 p.m. to face Creighton (1-3). The Bluejays are fresh off their first win of the season against Grand Canyon on Saturday. The match will be held at Genesis Health Club.
