All together: Kenyan Safari Acrobats impress audience

The performance by the Kenyan Safari Acrobats Friday at Wichita State was more than a demonstration of ability.

The show had a story-like quality to it, with a narrator and each “scene” including a different acrobatic performance.  The first performance involved front flips and back flips, all while jumping rope.

The acrobats continued to impress the crowd with amazing feats of gymnastics, strength, and contortion that would make a lesser mortal cringe. They balanced atop a stack of five chairs on their hands and bent their bodies through a tube smaller than the average-size car tire.

One of the acrobats managed to slip under a limbo stick with five sharp knives pointing down that were only about six inches from the ground.

“They definitely are talented,” freshman Therese Burns said.

The final performance of the night was called “Spirit of Togetherness” and involved flips, stacks and tumbling that would have put any professional cheer squad to shame.

The show truly exhibited a spirit of togetherness. The acrobats enchanted the audience, and the overall energy of the room was phenomenal.

“It was a lot of fun to watch,” sophomore Hannah Savage said. “And they really got the audience involved.”

And, in a spirit of togetherness, the night ended with a standing ovation for the talented Kenyan Safari Acrobats.
