Keeping up with WSU’s crime log — June 15

The Wichita State Police Department (WSUPD) maintains a daily log of incidents on the WSU campus and surrounding area. Each case and its details can be accessed via the Crime Log website on the WSU homepage.

This week, some notable entries were:

Parking lot black-out

During the early morning hours of June 3, two individuals were seen pulling electrical light switches near 1845 N Fairmount Street. The tampering resulted in all the lights in Lot 25, located south of campus and across 17th Street from Wilner Auditorium, to shut off. A report of the incident was filed on June 6, and as of June 13, no additional vandalism or tampering reports have been made.

Stolen wallet and backpack

Students at Shocker Hall are advised to keep a close eye on their belongings after two individuals fell victim to theft last week.

On June 6, a student reported that their backpack had been taken by an “unknown individual” while near Shocker Hall. Two days later, a wallet was reported stolen at the same location. Both cases have been assigned to investigations.

WSU Housing and Residence Life and WSUPD recommend that students do not permit entry to those loitering outside of Shocker Hall and encourage students not to leave personal belongings behind in lounge and kitchen spaces.

Individual Arrested on WPD warrant

WSUPD officers arrested a 23-year-old woman on June 10 after receiving notice of a warrant on the woman issued by the Wichita Police Department. The arrest was made by WSUPD officers outside of the National Institute for Aviation Research before they transferred custody of the individual to WPD.
