Ulrich receives grant for Miro mural project

The Ulrich Museum of Art will be recognized at a workshop in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday as a recipient of a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

The $150,000 grant will be used for the museum’s ongoing project to restore the Joan Miro mural that has adorned an exterior wall of the Ulrich since 1978.

The Ulrich is among 244 recipients of the grant and the only Kansas recipient.

The mural conservation is slated for completion in 2016. The mural, a 26-by-52-foot glass mosaic commissioned by the university, consists of 80 panels. It is one of only four Miro murals of its kind to exist in the U.S.
