Shocker Track & Field athlete qualifies for USA Thorpe Cup Team

The Wichita State University Track & Field finished at the USA Championships Saturday with the highlight of the event being Austin Bahner, who finished seventh in the Decathlon with 7574 points.

His finish qualifies him for the USA Thorpe Cup Team, an international competition that pits the USA against Germany on July 27-28 in Chula Vista, CA.

Head coach Steve Rainbolt expressed his pride in the work the team did and said that Bahner has good reason to be proud in his work, which is a major accomplishment for any athelete.

Freshman Chase Pote finished 11th in the Junior Javelin threw with a mark of 187-8. Former Shocker Chandra Andrews finished 14th in the Hammer with a throw of 197-4.


Shockers to Sponsor Hartman’s IndyCar this Weekend

Wichita State University and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will sponsor Wink Hartman’s No. 67 IndyCar driven by Josef Newgarden this weekend in the Iowa Corn Indy 250 at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa.

Wink Hartman has said that the goal was to bring greater recognition to Wichita, Kan. to attract more talent.

“This is a special time at Wichita State,” Wichita State’s Director of Athletics Eric Sexton said at GoShockers. “We are proud to partner with a great community supporter like Wink Hartman and show our pride in being a part of this wonderful community.”

The Iowa Corn Indy 250 can be seen on ABC Sports at 1:30 p.m. CST on Sunday, June 23.
