Top 10 must have applications for all smart phone users

With finals fast approaching, it’s important that students use all the resources they have available to them. Smart phones have become so universal that there are many apps that can be of aid to that busy student. As popular as the iPhone is, Androids have plenty of great apps as well that can benefit students in the upcoming weeks.

1. Blackboard: Unfortunately for us, Wichita State students are required to make an in-app purchase to use the official Blackboard app. It notifies you each time any changes are made by your professor. This is a boon when you need to check when the assignment was due and do not have access to a full-fledged computer on the move.

Manufacturer: Blackboard Inc.

2. My Class Schedule: This is a free timetable app by Sebastian Mayer that allows you to manage your college timetable incredibly well. The best thing about it is it can automatically silence your phone when your class begins. So you never have to worry about being embarrassed by your goofy ringtones in the middle of that class taught by the professor who hates you.

Manufacturer: Sebastian Mayer

3. WSUShockers: This is a necessary must for every shocker fan. Aesthetic and well rounded, it makes you wonder when WSU will launch its very own Android app. The only downside is that you will have to upgrade to premium in order to access some features.

Manufacturer: Neulion, Inc.

4. Wichita State Basketball: A much lighter alternative to the WSU Shockers, this app has all the information you will need. It updates in real time. So if you are on the move and cannot watch the game on TV or listen to it on the radio, this app will ensure you receive every update of your favorite basketball team.

Manufacturer: Statsheet, Inc.

5. Bank of America: Or the official app that your bank recommends. It allows you to set up notifications for several actions including when a deposit is made, or when your account is charged. As an international student, it is really comforting to know that I have complete control over my funds.

Manufacturer: Bank of America

6. Google Chrome: The best part about the Chrome browser is that it synchronizes your data across all platforms. This means you can leave halfway through a webpage on your Mac, and continue on your Android phone.

Manufacturer: Google Inc.

7. Evernote: Evernote allows you to save notes, reminders, images, audio clips, video clips and share them to all your devices. Every now and then, I use it to record my calculus lectures using it. It also synchronizes your Google Chrome and Outlook content.

Manufacturer: Evernote Corp.

8 .Flashlight HD LED: There are several of these available on the Google Play store, and you should buy any one of them in case your smartphone does not come with a pre-installed flashlight application. I would recommend the one from Smallte.ch as it is simple and extremely intuitive.

Manufacturer: Smallte.ch

9. ScanLife: This is probably the neatest QR code scanning app Google Play has to offer. Easy to use, it is an excellent app for phones that do not come bundled with a QR code scanner.

Manufacturer: Scanbuy, Inc.

10. iGag: This app has nothing to do with productivity. But here at The Sunflower, we understand how stressful the finals week can be, this app allows you to browse through Internet memes bases jokes.

Manufacturer: IGag Enterprises
