Spaghetti dinner brings WSU fraternity together
Huxley the Hippo might remember past Wichita State students eating at spaghetti dinner’s hosted by fraternity Phi Delta Theta in years past, especially since Phi Delta Theta’s event is being hosted for the 58th year, the second longest running tradition at WSU after Hippodrome.
The men from Phi Delta Theta invited students to come and enjoy their annual all you can eat spaghetti at the chapter house located just north of WSU off of 21st street and east of Omega Court.
“The fundraiser is to help with operational costs of the chapter as well as renovations the fraternity might be doing,” said Caleb Bannon, member of the fraternity and the man in charge of the dinner.
New member Eric Martin stated that many parents and alumni were in attendance.
“It kind of sounds weird but being in a hot kitchen all weekend bonds you in a way you cannot really bond anyway else,” said Martin.
The ladies of Gamma Epsilon were also present during the days of the event.
President of Gamma Epsilon Lindsey Dickmeyer and GE member Megan Babick went on Sunday for lunch when Dickmeyer’s boyfriend Trevor Lytle, member of Phi Delta Theta, invited them.
“I went to support the greek system,” said Dickmeyer. “The atmosphere is always good and the guys are always very professional and nice.”
It was the first Greek sponsored event Babick had ever gone to.
“They just kept bringing out more food and you got to choose what kind of spaghetti you wanted,” said Babick, also adding the men were very attentive and professional.
After the event was over, Bannon said it was a hit and that he couldn’t have asked for it to have run any more smoothly.
“As far as preliminary numbers we made more than last year but I couldn’t say by what margin because I have been trying to recover from all the lost sleep,” he said.
The spaghetti dinner was held Nov. 8 through Nov. 11.
