Second WSU Technology Fair to be held Tuesday in Ablah Library

Technology plays a role in every part of a modern student’s life.

Students check emails for class on smart phones and do assignments on Blackboard. Wichita State alerts students about campus safety and severe weather via SMS.

The WSU Technology Fair on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Ablah Library presents students, teachers and staff opportunities to learn how technology is changing the way we think, communicate and learn.

Five years ago, the Learn More series was created by the Unclassified Professional Senate to highlight new technologies. According to Becky North, an applications training coordinator, the first Learn More: WSU Technology Fair was held last year and was very well attended.

“This year, we have more booths, a different location and are looking forward to seeing more students, faculty and staff stopping by,” North said. “Keeping up with technology can be difficult for our students and employees.”

With more than 35 booths, the fair offers information on topics like “All Things Apple,” “Microsoft IT Academy,” and booths devoted to video conferencing and tablets.

“The fair is an opportunity for us to show what we are doing today in order to be better prepared for tomorrow,” North said. “The library is a perfect place to learn about technology.”

Additional booths will be set up in the Media Resources Center, covering classroom software, desk-side exercises to alleviate technology-induced injury and the technology involved in TV and radio production.
