Lindquist Hall lobby getting upgraded

The Wichita State campus is no stranger to construction this semester.

To add to the sometimes inconvenient landscape at the Rhatigan Student Center, construction to Lindquist Hall began last week to upgrade the building’s lobby.

“There just isn’t enough time in the summer to do these projects,” Randy Pulec, director of Facility Maintenance, said.

German instructor Deborah Wadman has found ways to respond to the loud noise.

“I had to move my German 220 class for a few days from Lindquist,” Wadman said. “We were trying to read a short story and on the other side of the windows the construction workers were using what sounded like an air hammer.”

Students are feeling the disruption, too.

“It’s really inconvenient,” junior Samantha Drinkard said. “I have to walk all the way around the building. If you only have 10 minutes to make it to class then the teachers get mad.”

The south entrance to Lindquist Hall is currently blocked off until the remodeling is finished. The north and west entrances are still open.

The project falls under rehabilitation and repair funding, which was increased for this fiscal year.

“The university had a lot of funds coming their way,” Pulec said.

What to look for when it is finished: remodeled restrooms on the first floor and a new lobby.

Lindquist Hall should be ready for spring semester.
