Who’s on the record books

The 2015-16 basketball season will see several records continued and broken for the men’s basketball team. Here’s a breakdown of their standings.

Men’s

With 178 three-point field goals made, Baker is currently fifth all-time at WSU.If he matches or exceeds last year’s total of 80, he will finish in first.

With 472 three-point field goals attempted, Ron Baker is fifth all time. If he matches or exceeds last year’s total of 209, he will finish first.

With 465 assists, Fred VanVleet is already first all-time at WSU.

With 170 steals, Fred VanVleet is third all-time at WSU. If he matches or exceeds last year’s total of 66, he will finish first.

With 110 games played, Fred VanVleet is tied for 32nd all time at WSU. If he matches or exceeds last year’s total of 35, he will finish first.

Three starters returning, nine lettermen returning.

Highest winning percentage in the country since the start of 2010-11 season with 151 wins and 29 losses (.839).

Seniors Ron Baker and Fred VanVleet both lost weight in hopes to become quicker on the court. Baker lost 10 pounds (down to 210), while VanVleet is down nine pounds to 186.

Marshall needs one more victory to reach 400 career wins and 17 more to exceed Ralph Miller as the school’s all-time winningest coach.

Ranked 10th nationally in scoring defense last year.

The slogan “Play Angry” was coined by former Shocker basketball players Antoine Carr and Xavier McDaniel during discussions with the team in 2013.

Fred VanVleet needs 25 wins to surpass Tekele Cotton as winningest player in school history.

Women’s

Jody Adam’s is school’s all-time winningest women’s basketball coach with 147 wins and 83 losses since 2008.

In 2014-15 WSU won a record 29 wins.

In 2009-10, Adams molded her inexperienced team into an able-bodied squad, winning 10-3 at season’s start, the best season start in school history.
