Fans looking to crowd into Charles Koch Arena for Shocker Madness Wednesday night will see new security changes enforced. Metal detectors and a new bag policy will be addressed at all entrances.

Brad Pittman, director of facilities and operations, said Shocker Madness will run like a normal game. Wichita State will test use of new metal detectors, which will be in use at all Shocker home games this season.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early, ahead of the event’s 7 p.m. start time.

WSU is planning to mirror INTRUST Bank Arena’s bag policy, which permits bags smaller than 14 inches long, 14 inches wide and 6 inches high. Backpacks will not be permitted, the policy says. Diaper and medical bags are permitted and are subject to search.

Additional changes

To comply with American Athletic Conference rules, bottle caps will be removed from all bottled drinks purchased.

Additionally, Koch Arena no longer will permit the use of tobacco products inside or outside of the facility to comply with WSU’s tobacco-free policy, which went into effect July 1. WSU has a no re-entry policy.
