No. 25 Wichita State baseball beat Cowboys in Wichita

No. 25 Wichita State defeated Oklahoma State 7-5 on Wednesday and are now 20-6 this season.

Sophomore starting pitcher Preston Snavely went for three innings and recorded four strikeouts both in the first two innings. Junior Connor Lungwitz went for two and recorded four strikeouts as well.

The team got a head start on runs in the bottom of the first.

Junior Greyson Jenista, freshman Paxton Wallace, and senior Trey Vickers walked. Then senior Gunnar Troutwine singled to left field with 2 RBI, for Vickers to take third and both Wallace and Jenista to score, leading the game 2-0.

OSU didn’t score until the top of the third with a single and a double for two runs scored that inning. But, the Shockers responded and scored three more runs that inning.

Junior Alec Bohm singled up the middle and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Wallace walked, and then Vickers singled to right field. Wallace advanced to second and Bohm took third.

Then Bohm scored on a wild pitch, while Wallace took third and Vickers advanced to second. Troutwine grounded out to shortstop with an RBI for Wallace to score.

Afterwards, junior Dayton Dugas singled to left field with an RBI for Vickers to score, with WSU still up 5-2.

Later in the top of the sixth the Cowboys scored their last two runs from a single and a double, bringing the score to a tie 5-5.

The Shockers had a more difficult time scoring, but that changed in the bottom of the seventh.

Troutwine walked and then Dugas hit a home run out of left field, allowing Troutwine to also score at home, with WSU still leading the game 7-5.

WSU will host their first conference weekend series on Friday when they play Tulane at 6 p.m. Saturday’s game will be at 2 p.m., and on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
