Sunflower reporters, photographers, designers and copy editors competed in the Kansas Collegiate Media Association’s 2016 individual contest, as well as overall categories in the four-year newspaper division.

About eight student journalists attended the KCM conference Thursday and Friday, attending educational sessions and collecting certificates for the regional contest.

The Sunflower earned silver in the overall newspaper division, and collected 48 individual awards, including first and second runner-up for four-year Journalist of the Year.

“These awards are a testament to how hard the staff has worked in the last year,” Editor-in-chief Shelby Reynolds said. “We are a diverse team, each person bringing different talents to the table. I’m so proud of what we’ve accomplished this year. I’m certain The Sunflower will remain an award-winning publication for years to come.”
