Sleet and snow fall outside Elliott Hall Wednesday evening.

With sleet and snow bearing down on campus Wednesday evening, Wichita State has cancelled all classes scheduled for Thursday, according to a university alert. University offices will also be closed.

WSU joins WSU Tech, Newman University, the USD 259 district, and numerous schools across the state, in calling off classes. Friends University has yet to cancel.

Two students slipped and fell on ice Tuesday, according to the WSU crime log, and dozens of Facilities Services workers were out early Wednesday morning to salt and deice campus.

WSU last cancelled school in December to honor the late President George H.W. Bush.

Due to the weather, The Sunflower will not go to press Wednesday night. Instead, papers will be on racks Friday morning.

Correction: A previous version of this story stated that Friends Universiy also cancelled Thursday classes. Friends has made no such announcement.
