Shockers take first loss to Creighton
After a hard-fought battle through the first half, the women’s basketball team suffered its first loss Friday, falling to Creighton 79-54.
The Shockers led by one point at halftime, but there wasn’t much for the Shockers to hold on to after being out-scored 24-5 in the third quarter and 28-21 in the fourth.
Freshman Jyar Francis led the Shockers again with 15 points, one assist, one steal and eight rebounds, but it was junior Marija Pacar who came off the bench to help the Shockers round out their double-digit scorers with 14 points.
Junior Jeleesa Chapel put up nine points, one assist and one steal.
Other scorers for the Shockers consisted of sophomore Diamond Lockhart with six points and three assists along with junior Brittany Martin with six points, one assist and three blocks. Lastly, sophomore Aundra Stovall finished up with four points and five assists.
The Creighton Bluejays out-shot the Shockers 52 percent (26-50) to 42 percent (18-43) from the field. The Shockers were also out-shot 50 percent (12-24) to 39 percent (5-13) from the three-point range.
