Courtney’s Corner: You really, really need to see Walt Disney-singing Carly Rae Jepsen

Carly Rae Jepsen has a new song out. The song is OK. The music video, however, has been out for five days and already has more than six million views.

It has a person nobody would have guessed lip-syncing the latest smash from Jepsen, “I Really Like You” — Tom Hanks.

The music video follows Hanks in a New York setting from when he gets up, to traveling and meeting Jepsen later in the video, all while dubbing the song.

Jepsen’s songs traditionally have a lot of repetitive lyrics and Disney-esque themes.

It’s the music videos that are worth a gander, because they are all adorable and well done, and this recent one is no exception.

Jepsen came into our lives in 2012 with the successful (but not substantial) smash hit, “Call Me Maybe,” followed by “This Kiss.” Then a couple duets arrived, including one with Adam from Owl City called “Good Time.” People may not know this, but she hails from Canada and was found by the other Canadian in our lives, Justin Bieber.

Jepsen doesn’t really have an album that sticks out, although she has released two, and her third is rumored to drop this year, probably with this latest song on it.

Jepsen’s videos have accumulated close to a billion views internationally, and “Call Me Maybe” comes in with the most at a little more than 650 million views.

I’m curious if Jepsen will ever reinvent or take a step away from her “Call Me Maybe” safe lyrics. But until then, she should never stop making cute music videos with people we would never expect.
