Shockers swing big on east coast

The Wichita State men’s golf team traveled to Manakin-Sabot, Va. Monday to compete in the two-day Janney VCU Shootout.

The Shocker golfers finished the tournament in tenth place of the 13 teams in attendance of the par-72 Hermitage Country Club.

The team finished the first day of the tournament in eleventh place, shooting 304 and 303 in the first two rounds, respectively.

Sophomore Grant Bennett finished his first day of the tournament tying for 25th place in the individual scorings.

Bennett shot a four-over-par 76 and a one-over-par 73 for his first two rounds.

Junior Alec Heinen also finished his first two rounds with a tie for 35th place, shooting a four-over-par in the first and second rounds.

Playing through round three in the second day, Bennett was able to work his way up to finishing tied for 23rd place, shooting three-over-par in the final round of the tournament.

Heinen ended the tournament finding himself in 37th place, after shooting three-over-par for the final round. Boyer finished tied for 44th, freshman Jacob Bishop finished tied for 61st and freshman Gage Ihrig finished 79th.

Sophomore Max Mason, playing as an individual, finished tied for fifty-first.

The Shockers scheduled to tee off again Oct. 13 and 14 at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate, in Overland Park, Kan.
