Shockers fall to No. 50 Oklahoma State

Following an impressive showing at KU earlier in the weekend, WSU women’s tennis traveled to Stillwater, Okla. to take on No. 50 Oklahoma State.

In doubles play, the Cowgirls swept the Shockers by way of positions three and. Katarina Adamovic/Karyn Guttormsen (OSU) defeated Abby Stevens/Julia Schiller (WSU) 8-2 and Viktoriya Lushkova/Kanyapat Narattana (OSU) beat Veronika Blaskova/Lucia Kovalova 8-3 to give OSU the 1-0 dual match lead.

“Every week we work hard to get better,” Blaskova said. “This week was no exception, it just didn’t fall for us.”

In singles play, WSU struggled to find rhythm and only avoided a total dual-match sweep because of a three-set match win from Rebecca Pedrazzi 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5).

“We fought really hard all match,” Pedrazzi said. “We had a lot of close matches and it was closer than what you see from the final score.”

WSU was unable to find victories at the other five positions as Schiller lost 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, Kovalova 6-4, 6-4, and Blaskova 6-1, 6-2.

The other two matches went the distance by playing into the third set, but Stevens was unable to find pay dirt as she fell 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. Montse Blasco-Fernandez dropped her match 7-6 (5-3), 6-4. OSU won the dual-match 6-1 in Stillwater.

“We’ll need to take the doubles point from K-State,” Blaskova said. “They always have strong doubles teams. We’ll have to be ready to play angry.”

WSU will travel to Manhattan, Kan. to play Kansas State at noon on Saturday, March 8.
