Senior Neleigh Herring runs to home base at the softball game against UCF on May 6, 2022.

Tonight, the Selection Show will determine the Division I Softball Championship bracket.

The Selection Show will select 64 teams to compete in the national tournament. Half of the 64 will receive an automatic qualification to the brackets. The remaining half will be selected on an at-large basis by the Division I Softball Committee. Once the selection is complete, 16 teams will then be seeded and placed at regional sites.

Despite the Shockers numerous conference victories, the team knows the NCAA selection committee is unpredictable. Last season, the team held a top-25 national ranking and No. 24 on RPI, but they were still only assigned to a No. 3 seed in the Normal Regional against Oklahoma, seeded No. 1.

This season, Shockers hold a favorable record of 14-14, giving them a higher winning percentage than Texas A&M, LSU, Arizona, Utaha, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Oregon State. The team has more top-100 wins than Boise State, South Florida, Western Kentucky.

The Selection Show will air at 6 p.m. on ESPN2 as the Shockers head home from the conference tournament at East Carolina.
