The WSU Softball team celebrates after Sophomore Addison Barnard hits a home run. The softball team played against Memphis on April 22.

For the first time in program history, Wichita State softball had two All-American selections for the 2022 season. On Wednesday evening, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association named sophomore Addison Barnard and junior Sydney McKinney to Second Team All-American Honors.

The NFCA All-American teams are voted on by Association’s All-American Committees. The Division I section is composed of one selected member head coach from each of the NFCA’s 10 regions.

After already being selected as an NFCA All-American third choice in 2021, McKinney became the first two-time All-American in WSU history.

The First Team All-Conference selection committee made a unanimous decision when they selected McKinney. With a .522 batting average, she is currently the only player in the country with a batting average over .500, in 2022. McKinney has set several single-season career records at WSU including batting average, hits, on-base percentage and runs. She also went the 2022 season with 97 hits, 13 home runs, 38 RBIs and a .849 slugging percentage.

As for Barnard, this is her first NFCA All-American honor. She led the Shockers after being named American Athletic Conference Player of the Year, the nation in

33 home runs, 84 RBIs and 25 stolen bases. With only two seasons with the Shockers, Barnard is only three home runs away from tying the career home run record—58— held by Madison Perrigan.

Wichita State is one of only 13 schools to have multiple All-American selections.
