Shockers rally in second half for 20th win of the season

Cleanthony Early led the Wichita State Shockers to a 70-55 win over the Illinois State Redbirds Wednesday night in Normal, Ill. The game gave the Shockers their 20th win of their as yet undefeated season.

Early put up 23 points and ten rebounds in the matchup. Ron Baker Scored second highest for the Shockers with 15 points.

The first half of the game found the Shockers outmatched by the Redbirds, turning over the ball 11 times in the first 20 minutes.

Darius Carter gave the Shockers took their first lead of the game with 1:23 left in the first half.

A layup by Bobby Hunter gave the Redbirds a 28-25 lead heading into the lockers after the first half.

WSU dominated the ball in the second half, committing only two more turnovers and outscoring Illinois State 42 to 30.

A three-point shot by Early began a 10-1 run to start the second half of play. Baker capped off the run with a three-pointer of his own to give WSU a 35-29 lead with 15:44 left in the game.

A big dunk by Tekele Cotton gave Wichita State the biggest lead of the game with 5:40 to go.

A nine-point run brought the Redbirds within ten. But it was too little too late as Early retaliated with his sixth three-pointer of the night, starting a 10-5 run to finish out the game.

The Shockers will look to keep their season untarnished Saturday, Jan. 25 against the Drake Bulldogs.
