Sex Myths Busted

In this day and age, sex is just about everywhere, which makes it easy to get misguided about this mystifying interaction. Just in case you missed that sex education class in middle school, we have decided to debunk some myths and present some useful if not entertaining information on this perplexing form of human experience.


Myths for Women

Myth: You can’t get pregnant if you have sex in a hot tub.

Fact: You can get pregnant no matter where you have sex. It doesn’t matter if it’s in water, standing up, sideways, etc.

Myth: The pill is effective the first day you begin taking it.

Fact: It may take up to a month for the pill to become effective because it works by releasing hormones over a period of time that prevent the ovaries from releasing eggs. It’s suggested that women use an additional form of birth control for the first few weeks of taking the pill.

Myth: The pill is 100 percent effective.

Fact: No method of birth control is 100 percent effective other than simply not having sex. It is estimated that the pill is 91 percent effective.


Myths for Men

Myth: Men have stronger sexual urges than women.

Fact: Both men and women have fluctuating urges that depend on things like diet, sleep, stress levels and even self-confidence.

Myth: Condoms are 100 percent effective.

Fact: Again, no form of birth control is 100 percent effective other than simply not having sex. Statistics show that condoms, used correctly, are about 98 percent effective.

Myth: Condoms decrease sensation and pleasure.

Fact: There are many types of condoms that have pleasure-enhancing features such as ridges or studs that increase pleasure for both partners.
