SAC hosting first ever three-on-three basketball tournament tonight

Student Activities Council will be hosting its first ever three-on-three basketball tournament starting at 6 p.m. tonight in the Heskett Center gym, which is located on the second floor.

Shocker Spirit chair, Rachel Tuck, said that SAC members came up with the idea and were interested in getting involved in a basketball tournament here on campus. That’s when the planning began.

“I’m hoping that the event will be a success [and that] a lot of students will come out and participate,” Tuck said.

The winning team will receive a first-place trophy along with T-shirt vouchers for the bookstore. Only one member of the team must hold a Wichita State student I.D. SAC encourages students to bring their friends to the Heskett Center at 5:30 p.m. for registration.

Stand Up. Be Counted. event registers students to vote

The Delta Sigma Theta sorority will be hosting the event, ‘Stand Up. Be Counted.’ Thursday, Oct. 4, to register students as voters from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the lobby of Hubbard Hall.

“As a bi-partisan, non-profit organization, our goal is to get as many people registered to vote as possible,” said Kristina Durham, president of Delta Sigma Theta. “As well as making them aware of new voter ID laws and what they will need to do to make sure their vote counts.”

Delta Sigma Theta’s first act of service—at the national level—was actually participation in the 1913 Women’s Suffrage March, Durham said. With about 33 days left until the election, voters need to sign up soon in order to have their voices heard.
