Wichita State men’s basketball saw one final player enter the transfer portal on Tuesday before it closed.
Zion Pipkin, a freshman guard who played 7.4 minutes per game last year, is in the portal, according to The Wichita Eagle.
Pipkin played in just nine games last year and scored 13 total points. However, with every starting player in the WSU backcourt graduating or leaving this offseason, most expected Pipkin would get more playing time next year.
He had the second-most minutes and points of any returning WSU player. Sophomore guard Joy Ighovodja, who played 87 total minutes and scored 21 total points, will be the leading returning player for the Shockers.
Pipkin played high school basketball in Houston at the Legacy School of Sport Sciences for new WSU assistant coach P.J. Couisnard.
With the transfer portal entry deadline closed, WSU lost seven players to the portal: Quincy Ballard, Yanis Bamba, Corey Washington, Zane Meeks, AJ McGinnis, Matej Bošnjak and Pipkin.
WSU has three returning players, four incoming freshmen and has signed four players so far in the transfer portal. The team has four scholarship spots remaining.
