What’s the deal with Carl’s new do?

Carl Hall, sans dreadlocks, speaks to the media on Wednesday in Salt Lake City.

SALT LAKE CITY—Carl Hall has constantly kept other players distracted with his dreadlocks. The hair may have even helped him get his shots off.

Thursday will be very different.

The Wichita State senior forward will have a new look in the Shockers’ second round NCAA Tournament match-up against Pittsburgh. It’s so new that even Hall hasn’t seen the same person in five years.

“It’s really different,” Hall said. “I lay in bed at night and I rub my head, wondering, what did I do?”

In his second year at WSU, Hall may have even shocked coach Gregg Marshall when he called him to announce his new do.

“I never asked him to cut his hair. I recruited him with the hair,” Marshall said. “I don’t know the reason why, or the timing of it. It was a little odd, but it’s his hair.”

Despite the drastic change at such a vital moment in the season, other Shocker players felt like the haircut was a good change.

“He’s been moving faster in practice,” said junior forward Cleanthony Early.

Hopefully the weight loss in hair will help Hall against the Panthers. At least he still has the glasses.
