How to get involved with a recognized student organization

As a commuter campus, some students may struggle to find their niche at Wichita State. This is why recognized student organizations play a vital role in campus life.

With more than 100 RSOs at WSU, everyone is sure to find something that fits their interests. RSOs vary by category and include academic, cultural, community service, religious, political, special interest and Greek organizations.

These clubs promote teamwork and cooperation, management and negotiation, as well as life-long friendships.

Students can learn more about each organization at wsu.orgsync.com or at the Student Involvement Fair on Aug. 29 on the Heskett lawn. The fair takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and gives student groups a chance to promote their organization.

Don’t find anything that interests you? Follow these steps to get started on founding your own RSO.

1. Determine the name and purpose of your student organization.

2. Check wsu.orgsync.com to see if a similar organization already exists.

3. Find at least five students interested in joining the RSO.

4. Determine a president of your organization.

5. Find a full-time Wichita State faculty or staff member to advise your group.

6. Draft a constitution. Help can be found at www.wichita.edu/student involvement on the Forms and Policies page.

7. Schedule a meeting with the Coordinator of Student Organizations and Civic Engagement by calling 978-3022 or visiting the Student Involvement Office.

8. Complete the online registration process.

9. Return all required paperwork to Student Involvement.
