WSU defeats Newman
The WSU women’s basketball team played like angry hornets in their exhibition game against the Newman Jets.
The Jets, on the other hand, played like bumblebees without a queen.
The Jets stumbled and the Shockers attacked on their way to an 81-32 rout Sunday afternoon.
WSU played well and built a 30-5 lead in the first 10 minutes. WSU starters Alex Harden, Jamillah Bonner and Michaela Dapprich led the offense.
The Jets offense puttered, taking 16 minutes to score ten points.
The WSU defense later swarmed the Jets and restricted their offense to hurried lay-ups and contested shots.
The lead was 53-16 at halftime.
Coming out in the second half both teams slowed the game down and worked their half-court offense.
WSU’s offense slowed down, but the defense remained solid and they continued to force turnovers.
After the game, head coach Jody Adams spoke about her team’s performance.
“I was impressed with our starting five … they played well within our system,” Adams said.
