Wichita State tennis dominates at home
The Wichita State men’s tennis team has been active early and often this fall. After strong performances at multiple tournaments, the Shockers opened up their home courts at Sheldon-Coleman Tennis Complex with two decisive victories Saturday.
“Playing at home was something new for me,” said WSU newcomer Miroslav Herzan. “It’s so different than playing anywhere else.”
WSU played Cowley Community College in their morning matches and clinched the doubles point easily by sweeping all three matches.
The team’s early momentum continued as they won all six singles matches, half of those sets decided by a 6-0 count in favor of the Shockers.
With one 7-0 sweep in tow, attention was turned to Baker University for the afternoon matches.
“We practice as hard as we can every day,” Herzan said. ”It doesn’t matter if we play one match or two.”
Doubles looked like more of the same as the duo of Tomislav Gregurovic/Tin Osotjic improved to 10-1 on the season with a victory at the No.1 position.
“We put in extra effort last week into agility practices to be able to move faster,” Ostojic said. “The whole team improved on their endurance — that’s how we managed to play two matches in one day.”
The Shockers, dropping only seven games total, won all six singles matches to complete a second 7-0 sweep.
WSU won’t see action again until the spring season, but will be represented by Gregurovic/Ostojic in the Intercollegiate Indoor Championships.
