Former Shocker Asia Strong commits to Syracuse

Senior guard Asia Strong makes a jumpshot against USF on Feb 24 in the Charles Koch Arena.

On Thursday, senior Asia Strong announced she would be entering the transfer portal as a fifth year senior. Less than 24 hours later, Strong found her new home, committing to Syracuse.

“I would like to thank the coaching staff and Coach Adams for believing me and loving me with open arms,” Strong said in an Instagram post.

Spending the last two seasons with the Shockers, the South Bend, Indiana, native joined Wichita State fresh out of junior college.

As a junior, Strong made an appearance in all 18 games, only starting in one. In 16 of the 18 appearances, she scored 10 or more points and finished 3 games with 20 or more points.

As a senior, Strong played all in 30 games with 29 starts. She extended her free throw career best to 77.4%, and finished with back-to-back 20 points in her final collegiate game with the Shockers.

According to Strong’s Instagram post, she decided to transfer to experience new opportunities.

“Once a Shocker, always a Shocker #00 out,” Strong said via Instagram.
