Men’s golf sinks first-season victory

The Wichita State golf team won the Bill Ross Intercollegiate Tuesday at the Milburn Golf & Country Club in Overland Park.

The victory was narrowly taken as the Shockers only beat Air Force by one stroke with final scores of 287-298-293-878.

Junior Grant Bennett set another career best for the tournament, making it the first time he has won a collegiate competition. Bennett has finished third more than once. He finished 10-under-par and eight strokes ahead of the second-place finisher. This marks Bennett’s 12th career top-10 finish with a score of 69-69-68-208.

Freshman Adrien Michellod nearly took a top-10 finish as an individual with a score of 77-75-71-223, giving him a tied-for-15th finish.

The Shockers will compete Monday and Tuesday at Las Cruces, New Mexico, in the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate tournament.
