Women’s golf team to start Golfweek Conference Challenge Monday

The Wichita State women’s golf team is on the road to Highlands Ranch, Colorado to participate in the Golfweek Conference Challenge, which starts this morning.

For the next three days the lady Shockers will compete at Red Sky Ranch Golf Club, a par-72 course with 6,249 yards.

Wichita State will team up against Arizona State, Boston College, Campbell, Denver, Florida International, Jacksonville, Lamar, Long Beach State, Memphis, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Mexico Sate, Pepperdine, San Diego State, TCU, Toleda and Troy.

Arizona State, Pepperdine and San Diego State were nationally ranked last year.

The Lady Shockers finished tied for sixth place in the Diane Thomason Invitational last week, their first tournament of the season. Head coach Tom McCurdy believes that the season will be uphill, citing the mentality of competing in a season opener as why the team did not finish higher.

The Red Sky Ranch contains greens and fairways of serene, luscious and mountainous landscape. The weather is forecast to be in the upper 70s by midday with partly cloudy skies.

Humidity is expected to be at 25 percent, considerably lower than golf conditions found in Kansas and in usual tournaments. This variable will allow for longer shots to be made by the women’s team.
